Wireless 802.1x Single Sign On enabled, getting "other user" prompt at logon
Wireless Win7 Enterprise Laptop that we've configured with a wireless profile where we make use of 802.1x to authenticate to the wireless network. We've found that GPO logon scripts won't process correctly unless we "Enable Single Sign On for the network" option under the wireless profile properties. We additionally need to enable "Perform immediately before user logon". This fixes our issue of logon scripts, GPO, etc.. But presents the following "gotcha"... Typically, the logon experience is as follows... machine boots up, user is presented with the "Press ctrl-alt-delte to logon" screen. After pressing ctrl-alt-del, the user is taken directly to the userid/password screen. Our issue is with single sign on enabled, the user is presented with an "Other User" icon that they must click before being able to provide userid/password. If we disable single sign on, the logon prompt then goes back to the expected prompt. Has anyone else experienced this and is it possible to disable this "other user" prompt from appearing?

Hi, The option other user at logon screen appear when your PC is with workgroup or homegroup workaround. Please try these follow these steps: 1. Click Start, input gpedit.msc in the search box. 2. Local Computer Policy Computer Configuration Administrative Templates System Logon 3. In the left pane, double click Hide entry points for Fast User Switching, choose Enabled. 4. Apply OK. Furthermore, you can also try: Access the Control Panel window first. Then, open User Accounts window from it. You need to then select the Change the way users log on or off option. You can then uncheck the option Use the Welcome Screen. It will disable the logon request screen from the system temporarily. http://windows7.iyogi.com/support/windows-7-login-screen-disable/ Hope that helps. I'm seeing the exact same issue. When SSO is configured the logon screen presents the 'Other User' button - somewhat irritating. If I find anything further I'll report back.Michael

Hi, Please try to disable the group policy "Do not display last user name in logon screen" to see if the issue could be resolved. Best regards Scott Xie

Hi, Please try to disable the group policy "Do not display last user name in logon screen" to see if the issue could be resolved. Best regards Scott Xie This has no effect. It simply then presents another tile (the last logged on user) in addition to the "other user" tile.

Just received an update from Microsoft regarding our open case on this issue. It appears this is a by-design behavior. The only way to get rid of the "other user" tile would be to create our own custom credential provider. So it looks like we're stuck with this behavior. (as we won't be writing our own cred provider)

Did Microsoft happen to explain why this was by-design behaviour? It's not really enough of an issue for us to log a Premier call, but I'd be keen to understand the reasoning as it seems like an unnecessary extra click at the moment. ThanksMichael
